March 9 – Summer Music by Samuel Barber

Samuel Barber was an iconic American composer of the 20th century known for his operas, piano concertos, and vocal writing. We honor him on this first day of summer with his quintessential work for the wind quintet named for the season. The work explores many different moods throughout its episodic form and exhibits the composer’s unmatched skill for exploring the timbral possibilities of the combination of instruments. Meghan Bennett received her Bachelor of Music degree from USC and her quintet, Li5ten, has competed at the prestigious Fischoff and Coltman competitions.
